Saturday 31st October DF65 Monthly Championships

Lymington Sea Water Baths

So, 25 entries with 21 competitors in the end including four visitors from Portsmouth and Eastleigh were greeted with some lovely summer weather for our October Championships at the Lymington Sea Water Baths. With a nice short windward leeward course set, the fleet were split into two flights with some very close racing!

After race one it looked like the visitors were here to give the local fleet a run for their money, with Clive Cokayne and Wayne Stobbs of Portsmouth pushing Paul Davis and Simon McCarthy all the way. Although race three was the turning point as Simon took the win to stamp his authority on the event and went on to take the next three races making it four race wins off the belt.

Slightly further down the field we had some newbies mixing it up in the heart of the starts. Andy Hind after only 20 minutes sailing before hand was owning the pin end on the starts, sometimes getting caught out by the acceleration of the DF65’s! One to watch!

Liam Willis and George Richards made sure they got theory monies worth of racing going between Heat’s B & A. Mr Consistant Jon Harvey started well but then the price of a few bad starts took its toll dropping him to B fleet.

Richard Russell and LTSC’s Commodore Nick Ingram are still flying the flag for the out of the box set up with standard sails, showing you can compete straight out of the box set up.

In the end Simon ‘Cake’ McCarthy did enough to take the win from Paul Davis, with Clive Cokayne taking third and first visitor. Alex Hayman and Wayne Stobbs rounded off the top 5.

Thanks must go to the visitors for making the trip over, Clive Cokayne, Wayne Stobbs, Chris Forman and Robin Antcliffe (We will pop over and have an away day sometime), but all of this wouldn’t have been made possible or as slick with our our resident Race Officer and his team, so a big thanks to Nigel Wallbank and team!!!

The next championship weekend is November 21st, time and venue to be confirmed. But there will be racing next Saturday at the Sea Water Baths, meeting around 1:30 with racing kicking off around 2.

Hope to see you then, LTSC RC Yachting.
